Consider a cable that is spanning around the world along the maximal latitude
or longitude e.g. following the equator and the circumference is let's say
exactly \(40000\) km which is \(40000000\) meter. Also our world is a perfect sphere.

Now cut the cable somewhere and lift the cable up by \(1\) meter all around the equator
and measure the gaplength that arises. Can you tell me what your first guess is ?

The circumference is measured by the formula \(\bbox[yellow,2pt,border:1pt green solid]{2.\pi.r}\)

So we have \(2.\pi.r=40000\) km which gives us \(r={\Large\frac{40000}{2.\pi}}\) km
or a radius of \(6366.197724\ldots\) km.

To calculate the circumference of the cable lifted up by \(1\) meter we add \(1\) to the radius
\(2.\pi.(\)\({\Large\frac{40000000}{2.\pi}}\)\(+1)~~\to~~40000000+2.\pi~~\to~~40000006.28318\ldots\)
So the gap is only \(\approx6.28\) meter wide.

Looking closely you will notice that this gap is independent of the original
radius or circumference of the sphere. It will always be \(\approx6.28\) meter.
Even with a sphere the size of a pingpong ball !!
